Dr. Maria Boile is Professor of Port and Terminal Policy and Management at the Department of Maritime Studies and Director of the Quantitative Analysis in Shipping Laboratory at the University of Piraeus. She has served as Research Director at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) at the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) and the Rutgers CAIT: Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation at Rutgers University in the US. She also serves as Coordinator of the European Waterborne Technology Platform. Her field of expertise is “Port and Terminal Policy and Management”. Within the scope of QuALS, her research focuses on the quantitative analysis of port and terminal operations, maritime infrastructure planning, policy evaluation, and strategic decision-making. She leads interdisciplina projects addressing port sustainability, capacity optimization, and multimodal integration, linking infrastructure investment with environmental and operational performance. Her work directly supports the lab’s mission to provide evidence-based insights for shaping future-ready port systems. Dr. Alexander Artikis is the Deputy Director of QuALS, Professor of Maritime Informatics at the Department of Maritime Studies at the University of Piraeus, and Affiliated Faculty/Research Associate at NCSR Demokritos. His research focuses on complex event processing, real-time analytics, and AI based decision systems, all of which are central to QuALS’ digital transformation agenda. Anastasios K. Ziakas is an economist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Piraeus, and member of the Quantitative Analysis in Shipping Laboratory since April 2022. He is also a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece since 2019. He serves as a Research Associate at the University of Piraeus Research Center (UPRC). He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business (2019) and an MSc in Shipping from the University of Piraeus (2021), with a thesis on dry ports’ location selection. His expertise includes data analysis, economics, finance, and Python-based data modeling. His research focuses on coastal shipping, environmental economics, and sustainable shipping, with a particular interest in maritime energy transition. Lila Perra is an Urban and Regional Planner and a PhD candidate at the University of Piraeus. She has been a member of the Quantitative Analysis in Shipping Laboratory, UniPi since 2021.
